Player Eligibility & Associated Costs

The Haven Youth Lacrosse Boys 7/8 team is open to boys in the 7th and 8th grades who live in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.  All players must purchase a uniform ($68), register with and purchase a membership to US Lacrosse ($30) and have paid HYL registration fees ($140* before the late fee date begins) prior to the start of regular season to participate in practices and games.)  

* Prior to the late fee date - A sibling registration discount of $25 off registration is applied to every child from the same family after the first full-priced registration.  Scholarships are also available.  Please email havenyouthlacrosse@gmail.com to inquire about scholarship opportunities.

 

Practice Schedule

Our preseason starts the first week of March with indoor practices two nights/week.  Regular season starts the first week of April with outdoor practices two nights/week at the MESA Field off of Brookhaven Rd behind SHHS.

 

Uniform

Every player is required to have a game uniform consisting of a jersey, shooting shirt and shorts.  Uniforms from the previous year may be used again.  New uniform orders may be placed in conjunction with the registration process.  Jersey number requests will be taken but not guaranteed.  

 

Game Schedule

The HYL Boys 7/8 team typically plays 8 games/season on Saturday and/or Sundays starting early April with the season concluding by late May/Early June.  We play against other townships registered in the "South" division of SEPYLA.  Home games are held at either the Rutgers Ave/CADES Field (401 Rutgers Avenue, Swarthmore, PA 19081), MESA Field (115 S Brookhaven Rd, Wallingford, PA 19086 - behind the high school) or King Turf Field (200 S Providence Rd, Wallingford, PA 19086 - behind the middle school).  When game schedules are available they will be communicated by the coach and posted on the HYL website.

 

Equipment

As specified by US Lacrosse, all field players shall have:

(1) A lacrosse helmet that meets NOCSAE ND041 at the time of manufacture and has a permanent, replica of the NOCSAE lacrosse seal appearing legibly on the exterior of the helmet shell

(2) An Intra-oral mouth protector (mouth piece)

(3) Protective gloves designed for boy’s lacrosse

(4) Shoulder pads designed for boy’s lacrosse

(5) Athletic cleats or athletic shoes

(6) Arm pads designed for lacrosse

(7) A jersey and shorts of the same color(s) as their teammates

(8) Athletic protective cup.

 

As specified by US Lacrosse, all goalies shall have:

(1) A lacrosse helmet that meets NOCSAE ND041 at the time of manufacture and has a permanent, replica of the NOCSAE lacrosse seal appearing legibly on the exterior of the helmet shell

(2) A throat protector designed for lacrosse

(3) An Intra-oral mouth protector (mouth piece)

(4) Protective gloves designed for boy’s lacrosse

(5) Goalie chest protector designed for lacrosse

(6) Athletic cleats or athletic shoes

(7) Athletic protective cup

(8) A jersey and shorts of the same color as their teammates.

 

Note: Recommended but not required pieces of equipment: 

(1) Arm pads designed for lacrosse 

(2) Shin, knee, and thigh pads that may be worn so long as they do not significantly increase the size of the limb protected (e.g., no ice hockey, eld hockey, or box lacrosse goalie pads).

 

As specified by US Lacrosse, lacrosse sticks should meet the following guidelines for pocket depth and stick (crosse) length:

 

Pocket depth: The pocket shall be deemed to have sagged too deeply if the top surface of a lacrosse ball, when the ball is placed in the crosse, is below the bottom edge of the sidewall (this does not apply to goalies.)

 

Stick (crosse) length:

 

Age group: 14U

Short pole: 40” - 42”

Long pole: 52” - 72”

Goalie pole: 40” - 72”

US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse is the national governing body of lacrosse.  Every HYL player on the 3rd-8th grade travel teams must purchase a US Lacrosse membership for $30 to be able to register and play for HYL.  Membership provides injury insurance as well as several other benefits.  You will be promoted to register with US Lacrosse during the HYL registration process.  For additional information on US Lacrosse, please visit https://www.uslacrosse.org.
